There’s something about an engagement session that feels like a little pause before everything gets busy. It’s a chance to slow down, spend time together, and simply enjoy being engaged—and Brenna and Jon’s session was such a sweet example of that.

We spent the evening exploring an outdoor setting surrounded by tall trees, greenery, and beautiful golden light. From the very beginning, these two made it so easy to capture their connection. They were relaxed, playful, and completely themselves in front of the camera, which is exactly what we love to see during an engagement session.

A Relaxed Evening Together

One of our favorite things about engagement sessions is that they don’t have to feel like a formal photoshoot. We want our couples to feel like they’re just spending time together while we happen to be there documenting it.

Brenna and Jon did just that.

We photographed them walking through the trees, cuddling up together, laughing, and enjoying all of the little moments in between. Some of our favorite images came from simply letting them interact naturally instead of worrying about getting the “perfect” pose.

The result? Photos that feel like them.

Their session had such a beautiful balance of romantic portraits and candid moments. We loved capturing the way Jon looked at Brenna, the way they naturally gravitated toward each other, and all those little expressions that you can’t always plan for.

Golden Light + A Little Adventure

And can we talk about that light?!

The warm evening sun filtering through the trees made this outdoor engagement session feel extra dreamy. There’s just something about golden-hour light that adds so much warmth and movement to photographs, especially when you’re surrounded by nature.

We took advantage of the beautiful scenery throughout their session, moving from the wooded areas to more open spaces filled with greenery. Each location gave us something completely different to work with while still keeping the entire gallery cohesive.

The forest gave us those cozy, intimate images, while the open areas created a little more room for movement and playful moments.

It was the perfect setting for these two.

The Little Moments Are Everything

While we always want to make sure our couples have beautiful portraits, some of the images we love most are the ones that happen between the poses.

A laugh.

A little squeeze.

The way they look at each other when they think no one is watching.

Those are the moments that tell the story.

Brenna and Jon had so many of those throughout their session, and it made photographing them incredibly fun. Their connection came through so naturally, which meant we could focus on documenting what was already there rather than creating something that didn’t feel like them.
