When Claire and Ryan first told me they were hosting both their ceremony and reception at Retreat 21, I knew we were in for an incredible day. Nestled just outside of Columbus, Ohio, Retreat 21 is a photographer’s dream—think modern, clean lines meets lush, rolling nature, complete with its own vineyard and natural swimming pool.

The day began in Retreat 21’s stunning, light-filled preparation spaces. Claire was the epitome of a relaxed bride, laughing with her bridesmaids in her silk robe while sipping local cider. Her gown—a sleek, modern silhouette with a dramatic train—hung beautifully against the venue’s signature wood accents.

Meanwhile, Ryan and his guys were just a short walk away, keeping things casual but sharp. The energy was pure excitement. Before we knew it, it was time for the first look.

The Ceremony: A Vineyard Backdrop

Claire and Ryan opted for an outdoor ceremony, and the weather gods absolutely delivered. With the vineyard stretching out behind them and a gentle breeze rustling the trees, they exchanged vows they had handwritten for each other.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Ryan saw Claire walking down the aisle. The joy on their faces when they were finally pronounced husband and wife was electric—the kind of pure, unedited emotion that makes my job the best in the world.

Seamless Transition: From I-Do’s to the Dance Floor

One of the biggest perks of Retreat 21 is how beautifully the space transitions. While guests enjoyed craft cocktails and local wines on the patio, the venue seamlessly shifted into reception mode.

Because we didn’t have to pack up and drive to a secondary location, Claire, Ryan, and I had ample time to sneak away into the vines for their couple’s portraits. We caught the most breathtaking golden hour light, casting a warm, romantic glow over the newlyweds.
